Welcome
Thank you for your interest in the Director of Public Health role at the London Borough of Harrow.
This is an exciting time to join our ambitious senior team. Working with our recently appointed Strategic Director for Adults and Public Health, you’ll have the opportunity to help shape this new directorate.
The Council is committed to ‘restoring pride in Harrow’ and as a senior leader, you’ll make key contributions to our priorities – a council that puts residents first, a borough that is clean and safe, and a place where those in need are supported. There’s a strong collaborative culture here, and alongside, you’ll find passionate partners equally committed to delivering better outcomes for residents.
You will serve as the statutory chief officer and principal adviser on all health matters, leading efforts in health improvement and health protection. You’ll offer a fresh focus to the issue of health inequalities and bring colleagues along with you on a mission to inspire local people.
In Harrow, though we perform at or above national levels for many indicators, there remain a series of challenges with implications for health including homelessness, obesity and vaccine hesitancy.
The Director of Public Health post spans responsibilities including strategic leadership, resource management, commissioning, and advocacy. You’ll set the direction for public health policy in Harrow and ensure that your team of public health professionals is equipped to deliver on it.
You’ll represent Harrow on the national stage and across London, engaging with the wider policy conversation about health and epidemiology. You’ll work closely with the London Region Office for Health Improvement and Disparities and the UK Health Security Agency – helping to ensure that Harrow makes strategically informed decisions on health and remains resilient to risk.
Known across the globe for the public school that counts Churchill and Byron among its alumni, Harrow is one of the most ethnically and religiously diverse places in the UK. Harrow sits on the north-west edge of the Greater London conurbation – once popularised as ‘metro-land’, it combines thriving town centres with lush green spaces.
We’re very interested to hear from strategic health experts who are ambitious for better health outcomes and committed to collaborative leadership. If this sounds like you, then we look forward to your application.
